Soya and Bone Health: What Does the Evidence Actually Say?
- 1 min reading time
You'll find two extreme claims online.“Soya is amazing for your bones.” Or, “Soya does nothing for your bones.”The actual evidence is much less dramatic.
Bones need more than one food
Protein, calcium and vitamin D all have important roles in maintaining bone health, alongside physical activity such as resistance and weight-bearing exercise.
That means no single ingredient can carry the entire job.
So where does soya fit?
Soya contains protein, and some soya foods can also contribute calcium depending on how they're prepared or fortified.
Researchers have also studied soya isoflavones and bone health, particularly in postmenopausal women. Some evidence suggests a possible benefit, but reviews note that the findings are not completely consistent.
The sensible conclusion
Soya can absolutely be part of a diet that supports bone health.
But calling it a bone-strengthening miracle goes further than the evidence allows.
Our mission: At HealthySoya, we prefer nutrition that is useful without exaggerated promises. Soya can have a place on the plate while the bigger picture stays intact.
Build bone health from the whole diet, not one ingredient.
